How acupuncture sits alongside your fertility clinic

Acupuncture for IVF is complementary care. It does not replace your consultant, embryology team or clinic protocol, and it is not a substitute for prescribed medication or monitoring.

Darren regularly supports patients having treatment at fertility clinics across London, including The Lister Fertility Clinic, ARGC, CRGH, Create Fertility, CARE Fertility, IVI London, The Evewell and Aria Fertility. These are independent clinics; we work alongside the plan your clinic sets rather than in partnership with them.

We schedule treatment around your clinic appointments where we can, including short-notice transfer dates across our three London locations. At your consultation we ask about medications, blood results you are happy to share, and any advice your clinic has given, so care stays appropriate for your stage.

Timing through an IVF cycle

Every clinic protocol differs. The outline below is a practical guide to when people often find acupuncture helpful. It is not a fixed programme or a promise of outcome.

• Preparation: in the weeks before stimulation, treatment may focus on settling sleep, stress and overall wellbeing while you get ready for the cycle ahead
• Stimulation: during ovarian stimulation, appointments can sit alongside monitoring; some people find acupuncture helps them feel calmer with medication-related bloating, mood changes or digestive discomfort
• Embryo transfer: where timing allows, sessions before and after transfer are arranged around your clinic slot
• Two-week wait: gentle support for anxiety, sleep and the emotional load of waiting for results

What to expect at your consultation

Your first visit is a full consultation. We take time to understand your treatment plan, previous cycles if relevant, medications, lifestyle and what support you want during this phase.

• Agree a plan that may include acupuncture and, where suitable and clinic-compatible, lifestyle guidance
• Leave with clear next steps and how to reach us if transfer timing changes

Chinese herbal medicine is mainly used in the preparation phase before a cycle, alongside lifestyle and stress-management support. It is only considered where it fits safely with your clinic plan, and we will always discuss it with you first. If something needs medical review, we will say so plainly.

Evidence and honest limits

Interest in acupuncture alongside IVF is common, and research in this area is still mixed and developing. Study designs, protocols and results vary, so findings should not be read as a guarantee for any individual cycle.

We do not claim that acupuncture will improve your odds of pregnancy, ongoing pregnancy or live birth. Care is offered to support comfort, calm and a sense of being looked after while you follow your fertility clinic's medical plan.
