HOW CAN ACUPUNCTURE HELP?
"Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture are used to improve the three big functions of digestion. These functions are absorption, transportation and elimination."
Absorption
Acupuncture, herbs and diet are used to help the body process and absorb the nutrients we need from the food we eat. It’s important to provide the body with the best fuel possible and also the best processing to extract the essence from the food we eat.
Acupuncture helps to treat problems of absorption which include these conditions:
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Crohn’s disease
- Leaky gut
- Chronic diarrhea.
Transportation
The problems from transportation are usually related to slow transit and sometimes lack of moisture in the stool impeding its progress.
Acupuncture, herbs and diet are combined to help increase fibre, moisture and encourage the smoother and faster transit through the large intestine.
Conditions that are caused by problems of transportation are:
- Constipation
- Abdominal bloating.
Elimination
Often the elimination part of the digestion is influenced by the previous two processes.
If absorption is functioning optimally then often the transportation and elimination will work normally. If absorption is not functioning well, then we can have issues when it comes to overuse of defecating a very loose stool continuously and the symptoms that follow that.
If the transportation process is not functioning then we can have symptoms of hemorrhoids because of trying to expel a stool which is lacking the moisture to be moved along the tract.
